Park East enhances the parking offering for High Altitude members
Convenient parking is an essential part of a 5-star airport experience. With this in mind, Malta International Airport kick-started works on its €20 million multi-storey car park – Park East – in December 2018, which became operational last November.
Park East will further enhance the airport experience – especially once passenger traffic starts to pick up – through the provision of around 1,300 covered parking spaces which will shelter users’ vehicles from the elements. High Altitude members can now make use of the parking spaces on Level 1 of the complex every time they travel through Malta International Airport.
The complex also provides a centralised area of operation for 17 car rental companies. In the coming weeks, the process of renting a car will become even simpler given that travelling guests would be able to pick up and drop off their vehicle, as well as settle any related paperwork, in one place. For further comfort and convenience, the multi-storey car park will be connected directly to the main terminal building through an underground tunnel and a covered walkway, works on which are currently underway.
The car park’s open-air level, which accommodates more than 500 parking spaces for airport employees and stakeholders, has been earmarked for the installation of a photovoltaic system next year. This will help Malta International Airport honour its commitment of achieving net zero status for carbon emissions under its control by 2050. Given that the amount of clean energy generated by the system is expected to equal the amount of energy used on site annually, the car park will be a net-zero energy building.
